Cowden Auto Body Has Issued the Following “Must Have Fun” Pumpkin Festival Challenge:

Girard’s Pumpkin Festival is October 10th. Because of an Illinois Fire Marshall decision we will not have air cannons this year. I challenge everyone to build a mechanical pumpkin chunker of some kind. Spring loaded, slingshot, catapult, trebuchet, human power. It doesn't have to be big or fancy, it just has to chuck pumpkins. This is a time to get family, friends and businesses together for fun. I will supply all the pumpkins and targets. We might get the antique air force to bombard our targets! We will also have a Pumpkin Festival Parade to start the day. Dress your car, truck, bike, trike, motorcycle, camper, 4 wheeler, golf cart, tractor, lawn mower and join in the fun! I have attached a Festival Flyer with all the day’s events to this email. Please forward to any and all that would like to participate.

Here are the rules for participation in the pumpkin chunking event:  #1 MUST HAVE FUN! #2 MUST BE ABLE TO ACCEPT DEFEAT AT THE HANDS OF THE COWDEN AUTOBODY TREBUCHET!! #3 NO EXCUSES! #4-10 MUST HAVE FUN! Anyone who does not have a team but would like to join a team, please let me know. My phone number is 217-627-2199. Thank you. - Mike Cowden

Remember: if you or your organization/business would like to participate in the Harvest Parade on October 11th at 10:30 a.m. before the start of the festival, please contact me or Stacey Hughes at
